Dr. Reshmaal Gomes Cumaranatunge, M.D., M.C.R.P., F.A.C.C. specializes in women’s heart disease, preventative medicine, general cardiology and with a special interest in imaging. Dr. Reshmaal Gomes is the clinical director of noninvasive cardiology at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. She has privileges at Arrowhead Hospital, Banner Thunderbird Medical Center and West Valley Medical Center. Her philosophy on patient care is “to give the kind of care to my patients that I would want for my own mom and dad”.
Her particular interest in primary prevention led Dr. Gomes to engage in translational cardiovascular research at the University of Pennsylvania. The studies identified novel inflammatory markers and metabolic factors associated with coronary atherosclerosis and were published in the Journal of American College of Cardiology and American Journal of Cardiology. Dr. Gomes has presented her research at national meetings of the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Associations.
Her fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington, Connecticut, was preceded by her residency in internal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Reshmaal Gomes was born in Sri Lanka and grew up in England. She completed her fellowship in emergency medicine at North Thames Health Region, London, United Kingdom. Prior to her fellowship she did her residency in internal medicine. Her postgraduate degree was in MRCP in London, United Kingdom. She earned her medical degree at University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.
Dr. Gomes is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine and board certified in cardiovascular disease and nuclear cardiology.
